  • Venous thromboembolism (DVT/PE)
  • DIC
  • Recent surgery or trauma
  • Pregnancy and advanced age

  • High sensitivity, low specificity — most useful to rule OUT clot when negative.
  • Many benign conditions raise it, so a positive result needs imaging to confirm.
